Jack’s Fire Department Bar is a second generation family owned bar in Sunnyside, Queens.
As far back as anyone can remember, the corner of Skillman Ave and 40th Street was always home to a bar. In 1985, the McGowan family purchased what was then called The Outpost.
Helene and Jack McGowan reopened it in 1986 as the Firewater Inn. Over the years, Helene and Jack’s children started working in the bar and eventually it was handed over to the next generation, their three firefighter sons. When Spike TV’s Bar Rescue crew came to town in 2014, they helped us update the concept and Jack’s Fire Department was born.
Today, the bar is operated by Brian McGowan, his wife Kristen and their 3 kids who are all locals. Our goal is to provide a welcoming spot for our neighbors with an accessible menu of food and drinks, all made with the care our guests have come to expect. Whether it’s for a night out with friends and loved ones or to catch a game, we look forward to welcoming you to our little corner of Sunnyside!
